Are You a MotherBragger? Find Out Here.

April 24, 2009 1 comment

Everyone is proud of their children. Everyone thinks their child is special and better than all the others. And it’s more than lovely to think that way. It’s beyond annoying that so many moms spend too much time telling anyone they can corner about their kid’s latest outstanding accomplishment. As if those people don’t have kids or grandkids they’d brag about too, if they could get a word in.

You probably now realize you’ve been accosted by a MotherBragger on many occasions. That MB might even be your own sister or your bestfriend or your boss. But no matter the source, I bet you went from annoyed to numb by the time you found a way to escape the audacity of it all. And while you certainly must recognize the MotherBragger in others (this term does not exclude men), you probably don’t see the title in yourself.

Oh, sure, maybe you slipped your child’s comp soccer team selection into the conversation at coffee; yes, you might have mentioned a possible acceptance into the Gifted and Talented program. But a few boastful side comments does not a MotherBragger make. That’s where you’re wrong.

So the point of this site is to see if after several visits here, along with much soul-searching, you might acknowledge that you are part of the phenomenon. And you might at least give a “MotherBragger Alert” before you launch into a story about your tennis prodigy. Or you may ultimately even see yourself the way others see you. Then maybe you’ll consider keeping at least some of your MotherBragging to yourself.

Even you’ve heard enough about your kids.
